VIDEO: Baby Born as a Giant Tornado Bears Down on Hospital

Source| Back in 2013, an Oklahoma City woman named Shayla was in labor at the Moore Medical Center — just as city officials announced a Level 1 tornado warning. Doctors gave her the option to reschedule the birth, but Shayla was already five centimeters and was having contractions. The tornado warning continued to rise until the hospital ordered an evacuation on the upper levels, where Shayla’s husband and 4-year-old son were located. Shayla was in the delivery ward on the second floor. Now at nine centimeters, the nurses did everything they could to buy themselves more time.

By the time the tornado hit the hospital, Shayla’s epidural had immobilized the upper half of her body. The floors started shaking and the ceiling started to collapse – all while Shayla is in active labor! “My biggest fear is that Shayla is going to deliver in the middle of this nightmare and we’re going to lose her baby,” her nurse said.

Nurses rushed Shayla to the operating room since it didn’t have windows. Like a gang of superheroes, they hunkered down over her bed and closed their eyes. They clutched their hands together and prayed. It was a frantic, horrifying scene, but the nurses made it their mission to put Shayla and her baby first. Meanwhile, Shayla’s husband feared the worst — that his wife was dead and/or they lost the baby. Even Shayla wasn’t sure if the nurses were still in the room with her as the tornado ripped through the operating room. But they stayed there, guarding over her, the entire time. Absolutely mind-blowing.

Watch the video below to find out what happened next. Though it ends without much resolution, CBS News reports Shayla gave birth to a baby boy named Braeden Immanuel, which means “God is with us.”
